Wells Fargo has donated $10,000 to support a unique community effort to provide a half-million meals for malnourished children around the world.

The contribution to the 2012 Sacramento Region Feed My Starving Children MobilePack event will cover the cost of more than 45,000 meals toward the goal of packing 500,000 meals, organizers said. It is the largest sponsorship for the 2012 MobilePack and the third year that Wells Fargo has provided a leadership sponsorship for the event. During the first two years, the MobilePack event packed a total of more than 786,000 meals for malnourished children in 2011 and 2012.

This year’s MobilePack event is being held at William Jessup University in Rocklin, beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 and ending at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17.

More than 2,500 volunteers from civic organizations, schools, businesses, and churches throughout our community are expected to participate. Registration opens up online October 15, with each shift lasting two hours.

“We are very grateful for Wells Fargo’s generous support this year,” said Kris Glass, a coordinator of the MobilePack event. “While each meal costs just 22 cents, in order to pack 500,000 meals we need significant funding from our community.”

“This Feed My Starving Children MobilePack is a tremendous way for the community to come together and pro-actively work to address the issue of global hunger,” said Denette Moser, Vice President and Regional Finance Manager for Wells Fargo. “We are proud to support this event financially, as well as encouraging our employees and their families to volunteer to pack meals.”

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization that coordinates MobilePack events around the county to combine and pack ingredients scientifically formulated to address the needs of malnourished children.

In 2011, Feed My Starving Children provided more than 133 million meals, with 565,000 volunteers. In most cases, the meals are provided to organizations that operate orphanages, schools, clinics, and community feeding programs that contribute to long-term community development. Ninety-two cents of every dollar donated goes directly to the Feed My Starving Children food program to distribute nutritious meals in nearly 60 countries through humanitarian agencies.

Information on the MobilePack is available at www.sacfmscmobilepack.org. In addition to volunteers, organizers are seeking business and civic groups who would like to both volunteer and sponsor meals.
