Election 2012: The Primary Race- Assembly District 1

Five candidates are bidding for the 1st Assembly District seat, which includes 58,104 Placer County residents living in Applegate, Colfax, Kings Beach, Meadow Vista, North Auburn, Squaw Valley and Tahoe City.

There are no incumbents running in this Republican favored race, as Assemblyman Dan Logue and Assemblywoman Gaines were drawn out of this district, but are both running in other races.
This race comes down to Rick Bosetti, former Major League Baseball player and current Redding City Councilman, and Lassen County Supervisor Brian Dahle. Both have the three key ingredients to win the race: money, name recognition and Republican party affiliation in this strong GOP territory.

Thanks to Proposition 14, which essentially created an open primary where voters can vote outside of their parties and the two top vote-getters to on to the General Election, Bosetti and Dahle could face each other again in November.

Or, Libertarian candidate Charley Hooper could peel away just enough GOP votes creating a loss for one of the GOP candidates and thereby giving Democrat candidate Robert Meacher, a Plumas County supervisor, the nudge he needs to survive the primary race.
